La Maldicion, "the curses," is the side project of Marc Isart, winemaker at the famed Bernabeleva winery in Gredos, and one of the original founders of Comando G. 85% Tempranillo and 15% Malvar (a native white grape) co-fermented on skins, all cement and tank, no oak = the recipe for a bright, energetic Spanish red. Drinking like a supple Pinot Noir, La Maldicion has a lot in common with the wines Raul Perez is making in Ribeira Sacra. Hand harvested from the rocky Valdilecha vineyard in the mountains of Madrid, there is such a vibrant nose of red fruit and violets, complemented by fresh, bright acidity. Leans to the light-bodied spectrum with low alcohol (13.5%) and tons of minerality. Ask around, nobody is making more exciting wines in Spain than Marc Isart. This is an amazing opportunity to try one of his wines for $9.99 a bottle!
